Exterior View   House exterior

Built two years ago in the Arts and Crafts style by the Asheville Cottage Company, our house has Hardiplank (cement fiberboard) siding, architectural shingles, a huge wraparound covered porch, a rear deck with stairs and real copper gutters and downspouts. The property is fronted by a small stream. The house backs up to woods and is surrounded by a multitude of organic gardens. There is off-street parking for 2-3 cars and a shared drive.

Covered Wraparound Porch   Front porch

This is a great porch — shady, roomy, and dry. Great for grilling, zoning out with a book or hosting a party for 50 (really!), the porch expands the house's living area significantly. Many of the neighborhood cats meet up with ours on the porch, and it's not unusual to find a raccoon or possum lurking around in the evening.

Rear Sundeck   Rear deck

Looking out onto the woods, this cozy and private deck is the perfect place to catch the afternoon sun with a cup of tea or a glass of wine. This deck can be accessed from either the backyard woods or the master bedroom.

Garden Shed   Garden shed

Cute and roomy, the garden shed is great for storage and could be a workshop as well. Although the shed is not directly hooked up to any electrical supply, the main house has several exterior outlets from which one could run one of those chunky orange electrical cords.

Shed Interior   Shed interior

Although decidedly rustic, the shed is quite waterproof. The windows on all four sides let in lots of air and light. We like to have cocktails in here in the summer.

Extensive Organic Gardens   Pet-friendly garden

The property is partially fenced and features several gardens, all of which have been cultivated organically. We currently have an herb garden, several perennial gardens liberally strewn with spring bulbs and assorted annuals, and a manageable veggie garden that produces an abundance of yummy produce in the summer. Domestic and wild critters alike love to spend time in our gardens.

Downstairs Living Area   Downstairs living area looking into kitchen

One enters the house into the downstairs living area, which we currently use as a dining room. It's a pretty big room with a gas fireplace, 9-foot ceilings and rustic hardwood floors. This is a view into the kitchen beyond.

Staircase   Downstairs living area with view to staircase

The staircase leading upstairs from the downstairs living area is hand-crafted of oak and is wider than usual. Various in-wall niches in the living area are great for displaying cool artifacts or quirky sculptures.

Gas Log Fireplace   View of downstairs living area from staircase

The downstairs living area features a vented gas log fireplace with a blower and three big windows. All of the windows downstairs have custom wooden blinds.

Kitchen — Left Side   Kitchen view - left

With a terrific south-facing view onto the garden and rustic shed, the kitchen is always light and cheery. The hand-crafted cabinets provide ample storage for dishes, pots and pans, food and the like. Cool shelves throughout the kitchen serve as additional storage or display space.

Kitchen — Right Side   Kitchen view - right

The galley kitchen is not large, but it's quite functional. The appliances, which are less than two years old, are top-of-the line and include a gas oven and stovetop, a built-in microwave, a dishwasher, a stainless steel refrigerator and a garbage disposal unit in the sink.

Built-In Glassware Cabinet   Built-in glass-fronted cabinet in kitchen

This handcrafted cabinet built into the kitchen can house an extensive glassware collection.

Den or Office, Perhaps   Den or office

Though built to be the dining room, we currently use this room as an office and use the first floor living room as our dining room. Whatever you use this room for, it is adjacent to the kitchen and quite cozy.

Master Bedroom on Main   Master bedroom on main level

Though we currently use this room as a massage studio, it is indeed the master bedroom. It has two closets and a private entrance, which is accessed via the rear deck. It has great views of the woods behind the house and is steps away from the laundry closet and master bathroom.

Master Bath   Master bathroom

This is a good-sized bathroom with a single sink and a large vanity with plenty of storage. The floor is ceramic tile and the bathtub/shower combo is standard-sized. Please pardon the open toilet seat!

Upstairs Living Room   Upstairs living room 1

This room blows everyone away. It is ENORMOUS. With 9-foot ceilings, windows on two sides and great views directly into the backyard woods, this is a peaceful oasis that brings lounging to a new level. Large-scale furniture works perfectly in here, and you can set up the space to have multiple functions. We often have dance parties up here — it's that big!

Upstairs Living Room   Upstairs living room 2

That armoire is enormous... and a full bathroom is 8 feet to the left of it, making this a perfect spot to watch a big-screen movie with a delicious libation or two.

Upstairs Bedroom 1   Upstairs bedroom 1

This is a medium-sized bedroom with plenty of room for a queen bed and a large dresser. The walk-in closet is quite roomy. This room gets great afternoon light, and all of the upstairs windows have custom bamboo blinds.

Upstairs Bedroom 2   Upstairs bedroom 2

The second upstairs bedroom is quite large and has a good-sized closet. It also has a big nook that can accommodate an armoire or even an office setup. The terra cotta color on the walls is rather delicious.

This is a medium-sized bathroom with a nice window, a ceramic tile floor, single vanity and standard-sized bathtub/shower combo.
